A new material for combustion exhaust aftertreatment at low temperature

چکیده

Materials which catalyse the reduction of gas phase nitrogen oxides (NOx), from combustion devices such as diesel engines, are needed to meet emissions regulations and improve air quality. Here we use flow tube engine laboratory systems investigate an iron silicate material (LowCat) catalyses CO oxidation NOx simultaneously is effective at low temperatures. LowCat’s potential for mitigation was assessed by combining quantitative kinetics with understanding its mechanism action. Annealing LowCat transforms a goethite component hematite, increasing catalytic activity. A surface bound O intermediate, critical binding NH3 reductant, forms facilitates NO2 room temperature. This intermediate can also be formed O2 NO above 450 K. mechanistic allowed assessment performance. The catalyst shows significant activity under conditions relevant automotive other has particular advantage reducing N2 temperatures below 150 °C. represents exciting opportunity create Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust aftertreatment superior temperature performance, load operation diesel-powered vehicles that often important contributors urban

CFD Modeling Study of High Temperature and Low Oxygen Content Exhaust Gases Combustion Furnaces

This paper reports a CFD modeling study on the possibility of using high temperature and low oxygen content exhaust gases as oxidant for combustion in an industrial furnace by a written computer program. Under these conditions, the predicted results for the flow and heat transfer properties are compared with those under the several cases of conventional and highly preheated...

Particulate Matter and NOx Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems

Fleet fuel consumption is greatly reduced through the introduction of the HSDI Diesel engine. The reduced fuel consumption is then reflected in a reduction of CO2 emissions. The drop in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions results in a rise in market acceptance, which is also the result of desirable driving performance and greatly improved NVH behavior. The continuously increasing demands on plac...

Selective Catalytic Reduction: Exhaust aftertreatment for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions

Ways to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions In order to comply with the increasingly tough emission standards worldwide, engine manufacturers are forced not only to substantially reduce emissions of particulate matter (PM), but also emissions of nitrogen oxides. The main approach pursued by MTU is low-emission combustion, in other words an internal engine solution. However, this means taking into a...
